Why is website maintenance important?

Yeah, but do I REALLY need it?
Nope! Keeping your website maintained is a relatively simple, if laborious set of tasks.
You’ll need to
- Keep your plugins and theme files updated
- Purchase and install licence subscriptions for any premium software we’ve used on your website.
- Ensure that plugin updates don’t change the site layout or other functionality.
- Keep daily backups in case an update does create visual issues with your site.
- Compress all images that you upload to your website.

So it really is just a timesaver for an essential task, but the amount of time spent daily/weekly/monthly on this task would probably be better spent elsewhere.
What happens if I don't keep my website updated?
Probably nothing. for a while, at least.
Software vulnerabilities are found every day, and patches are usually developed very soon after, creating a constant game of cat and mouse.
At some point, maybe in a couple of weeks, maybe in a few years, someone is bound to find a security vulnerability in the software used on your website. At that point, it’s just a matter of your website being found.
We highly recommend you keep on top of your website, as often as you brush your teeth. It takes 10-20 minutes per day to make sure that you’re giving yourself the best possible outcome.
If my website gets hacked or goes down without your maintenance plan, can you still fix it?
Absolutely! For a website not on our maintenance plans, we charge our full hourly rate for any technical difficulties. If you’re on our maintenance plan, we provide 3 hours a month of free technical support, and then charge half our hourly rate.
The length of time it takes to fix a hacked website is usually influenced by whether you’ve been keeping backups, and how often you’ve been performing updates. With WickedPixel’s maintenance plan, that’s every day and… Every day 🙂
